Jacqueline Garrity is a metalworker and sculpture artist born in El Paso, Texas and grew up moving throughout the United States. She uses iron, bronze, steel, and ceramic to expand upon her experience with trauma and identity through materials that capture both vulnerability and strength.
Her work draws from the lived experience of being a queer woman, layered with a focus on the confrontation of her trauma, identity, feminine rage, and exploration of queer joy and strength within heteronormative spaces. Jacqueline received a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and is currently studying and working in the Bay Area.
Jacqueline’s work is made as a way of healing and self exploration. With an emphasis on cast metals and the pairing of forged steel, as well as ceramic her materiality is intentional and the making is intuitive. Within her process, from wax work, to pattern making, to casting, to finishing, Jacquelines work goes through life cycles that emulate the transformation of self through different aspects of her life and experience. In her work Jacqueline connects with her audience by telling her story through form, material, and poetry that allows others to feel seen. While her work at it’s core is examination of self, the process is integral to the final form. With the labor, Jacqueline is able to forge in emotions through molten materials that while unforgiving push visual narratives that can be emphasized within both patterns and finishing.
In 2015 Jacqueline graduated from SCAD with a BFA in Jewelry Design and Metal Arts, with her first exhibition at The Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, DC. From 2015-2019 Jacqueline worked as one of three Jewelry Designers for the Runway and Retail Collections at Coach in New York City, under the direction of Creative Director Stuart Vevers. In 2020 Jacqueline launched her own jewelry company, and spent the next few years growing her business through various trade shows, and collaborations with stylists in Los Angeles, CA. Jacqueline lives and works in San Francisco, CA and is currently an MFA Candidate at California College of the Arts.
